Walking With Survivors
When I first meet with a survivor, getting to know them is the most important thing to me. I do not need to know what they’ve been through or the experiences that brought them to AncoraTN. Instead, I focus on their wants and desires for what lies ahead. When I know where they want to go, I can walk alongside the survivor and help them navigate their unique healing journey.
For survivors of human trafficking, regaining choice and control over their lives is so important. I regularly reassure survivors that they get to choose their next steps. It is their healing journey;
I am simply there to walk with them every step of the way. In the beginning, it can be hard for some survivors to express their wants and needs. But with time, survivors begin to trust their instincts.
The most rewarding part of this work is watching a survivor reach significant milestones in their journey. It's the moments when I stand with a survivor in their new apartment or hear the excitement in their voice as they share about a new career opportunity. These are the moments when they are reclaiming their future.
